Dmytro Choni, piano

 

As a prize-winner at numerous prestigious competitions, Dmytro Choni has already made a name for himself on the international stage. He is a winner of the First Prize and the Gold Medal at the world-famous Paloma O'Shea Santander International Piano Competition 2018 in Spain. Dmytro is a laureate of many well-known competitions, such as: Vendome Prize at the Verbier Festival (Switzerland, 2019), Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition (Italy, 2017), International Piano Competition in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz (Ukraine, 2017), Suzhou Jinji Lake International Piano Competition (China, 2017), San Marino International Piano Competition (San Marino, 2016). Among them are the: 1st Prize at the Bösendorfer USASU International Piano Competition (USA, 2019), 1st Prize at the Los Angeles International Piano Competition (USA, 2018), 1st Prize and Audience Prize at the ZF-Musikpreis (Germany, 2018), 1st Prize at the Roma International Piano Competition (Italy, 2017), 1st Prize at the Tucumán International Piano Competition (Argentina, 2016). In 2019 Dmytro has received the prestigious “Prix du Piano Bern” at the Interlaken Classics (Switzerland). In 2017 he was awarded the “Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli Prize” by the Piano Academy Eppan (Italy).

Dmytro has already given a considerable number of solo recitals and chamber music concerts, and performs regularly as a soloist with renowned orchestras, such as the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, the Republic of San Marino Symphony Orchestra, the Ensemble Esperanza, the RTVE Symphony Orchestra, the Seongnam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Real Filharmonía de Galicia, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra, the Dominican Republic National Symphony Orchestra, the Ukraine National Symphony Orchestra, the Varaždin Chamber Orchestra. He worked with conductors Miguel Ángel Gómez Martínez, Matthew Kasper, Nanse Gum, Maximino Zumalave, Francesco Ommassini, José Antonio Molina, Alain Paris, Rubén Gimeno, Volodymyr Sirenko.

He has performed at the “Kissinger Sommer Festival” in Germany, the “Verbier Festival” in Switzerland, the “Dubrovnik Summer Festival” in Croatia, the “Granada Festival” in Spain, the “Stars and Rising Stars” in Germany, the “Festival Internacional Cervantino” in Mexico, the “Santander International Festival” in Spain, the “VP Bank Classic Festival” in Switzerland. Dmytro has been an Artist in residence at the “Olive Classic Festival” in Croatia. His performances in Wigmore Hall (London), Salle Cortot (Paris), Minato Mirai Hall (Yokohama), Auditorio Nacional de Música (Madrid) and Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires) have made a lasting impression on his musical development.

Chamber music also forms an important part of Dmytro Choni’s musical activities. He has collaborated with famous musicians, such as Cuarteto Quiroga, Quartetto di Cremona, Calidore Quartet, violinists Andrej Bielow, Orest Smovzh, Mari Samuelsen.

Dmytro Choni was born in Kyiv, Ukraine in 1993. His first piano lesson he received at the age of four from Galina Zaslavets. Later, he went on to study in Kyiv with Nina Naiditch and Prof. Yuri Kot. He is currently studying with Prof. Dr. Milana Chernyavska at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. The young pianist also receives a scholarship from the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein, and regularly participates in the intensive music weeks and other activities held there. Starting 2017 he is receiving grants from the charity foundation VERE MUSIC FUND. Dmytro has also received masterclasses from renowned musicians as Arie Vardi, Sergei Babayan, Pavel Gililov, Klaus Hellwig, Claudio Martínez Mehner, Grigory Gruzman, Aquiles delle Vigne and Yakov Kasman.
