Nam Yun Kim, the most famed violinist in Korea, made her grand debut as she has won top prizes from Tibor Varga International Competition in 1974.

Begun to play violin at the age of 6, she became recognized as a child prodigy, and by the age of nine she won Ewha & KyungHyang Concours, the historical music competition in Korea and started her professional career. After graduated at Seoul Arts High School, she continued her study at Juilliard School of Music with Ivan Galamian and Felix Galimir.

She started to challenge for many competitions, and in 1969, she won at the Merriweather Post International Competition in Washington and this would let her encouraged to build her musical careers. Since then, she won the Julliard Concerto Competition, Career Grand Prize at Young Musicians Foundation in Los Angeles, The Hudson Valley String Competition and the Tibor Varga International Competition in Switzerland, which did not have the first prize for a long time. 

After Tibor Varga International Competition, Kim was invited to perform at many internationally renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Kennedy Center and Sydney Opera House and other major concert halls in Europe and Asia. She also performed with major orchestras throughout the world including St. Petersburg Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, Zagreb Radio Symphony and many others worldwide. During that time, she was under the management of Thea Dispeker Inc.

Although she was busy with tremendous concert schedules and tour plans, she decided to come back to Korea and became the youngest violin profession in Korea in 1977. She wished to share her internationally experiences with many talented young violinists in Korea and Prof. Kim contributed her life to teach and support. Among her pupils, many have achieved and won the first place at these prestigious competitions; 2008 Long-Thibaud International Violin Competition, 2010 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, 2012 Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition, and 2015 Queen Elisabeth Competition, etc.

She has constantly invited to many famous music schools and festivals as the honored and respected faculty; her pupils are not only Koreans but also many other nationalities. Nam Yun Kim, one of the most successful teachers, has served on the juries of numerous prestigious competitions worldwide like Hannover International Violin Competition, Queen Elisabeth Competition, Taipei International Competition, Tchaikovsky Competition Tibor Varga Competition, International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition, and so forth. In the season of 2018-2019, she would be invited and participated to the famous international violin competitions and festivals. 

Prof. Nam Yun Kim is currently the professor of violin at the Korea National University of Arts and makes her grand effort to build the strong cultural competitiveness.
